I have been searching for how to do this for ages, and i can only find old forums with old information, so if anyone could help me with this or give me some links, it would be greatly appreciated.

No to burnt games without voiding your warranty, and no, you have to have the disc to play.
You can play games straight from the hdd but you have to like burn it to the harddrive. Just put the game in the xbox then go to game library then recent games it will give you 3 options the last one install to hard drive and there you go
